Lime Bikes

Lime Bikes recently left the following message on our site:

“I’m getting in touch from Lime to discuss the potential to work with us on a campaign to increase the amount of bike parking available in Southwark. We want to ensure that more people are able to cycle and leave their bikes tidily while making sure residents and businesses are also benefiting from active travel and are not negatively impacted by pavement obstructions.

Lime has a strong track record of working with our partner boroughs, including Southwark, to identify and implement new parking locations for our shared e-bikes. We now want to work with local organisations such as yours to campaign for the identification and implementation of more parking across the borough.

Lime is able to fund the installation of bike racks in exchange for being able to use them for our own vehicles too. We will fund double the number of racks we use to ensure that we are not taking space away from private cyclists and everyone has space to park safely and conveniently in Southwark.

Is this something you would like to campaign with us on?”

Comments from RA members would be very welcome so that we can decide how to reply to Lime and Southwark.

  1. Yes it’s a good initiative . Bikes left randomly look a mess and are a safety risk especially for people with disabilities . It is a particular problem on narrow pavement areas near the entrances to Dulwich Park

  2. There may not be a shortage of sites. On many occasions I have seen Lime (and other) bikes left within 10-20 metres of parking bays with plenty of available space. Examples would be by the Park at College Gate, by the roundabout outside the old Barclays Bank and at North Dulwich station. The problem seems less the availability of spaces than the inconsiderate attitude of many users and Southwark’s failure to enforce penalties on abandoned bikes.

  3. Yes, I would think maybe our Councils should insist all Line bikes parked only in official bike parking spaces – for this to work there would need to be lots of them so it’s easy for Lime users. And if they pay for more racks for private cyclists too that would be great news.

    My suggestion would be Burbage Road between the Car Club space and the road narrower which is planted with shrubs.

  5. Dear RA, Thank you for asking. We already have an e,bike parking space installed by the Highway in Aysgarth Road SE21 for e.bike visitors who at the moment are chaining their bikes in the most dangerous public poles and gates on the highway including the disabled parking bay poles which have been damaged because of it. The Southwark Council’s bikes parking space has no facilities yet for chaining private bikes in it. Some bikes visitors are still ignoring the new e.bike parking facilities. Perhaps the tall disable signposts could be taken away and replaced with a lower size individual parking sign like seen in other places on the Highway & streets? Regards Clara
