Comment on the 20 metre high mast

I asked the council where exactly is the mast to be planted – (it is very unclear from the drawing) and it is slap – bang on the pavement outside the private graveyard.

So not only do we have that monstrosity of ‘street furniture’ to avoid looking at, we will now have a mobile phone mast.

Here is the picture the council sent to me

I also asked if the Dulwich Estate receive any remuneration (they probably do not) but I wanted to ask anyway.. and they could not answer this.

Please feel free to disseminate among your group.

  1. Seems very close to the tall green post that nobody seems evert to have commented upon – it has probably been there for ages….. doing…. what?

    1. Stink pipe and indeed has been there for decades. It is also far smaller than the proposed mast.

  2. We seem to have 2 threads so I shall duplicate my comment.
The issue is less whether it should be erected but rather where? The proposed location is just about the most obtrusive they could have found and not at all hidden by the mature trees. Do we know where Cllr Leeming wanted to put it? Oddly enough, it is hardly consistent with LBS’s fanciful vision of the Mediterranean piazza (a.k.a. “Dulwich Square” & the proposed Turney Parkway). We should, however, oppose solely on logical environmental quality/aesthetic grounds & not on the supposed health hazards, which are (to be generous) controversial and mostly unproven so likely to undermine rather than support objections. As to the sewer vent, that could hardly have been placed other than above the sewer and, in any case, as Bridget observes, predated the conservation area by many decades. It would be far less of an eyesore on the other side of the burial ground at the foot of Court Lane – near Decker Road or in the Dulwich Village/Village Way triangle.
