Events in the Dulwich Village Streets for People Scheme: Calton Avenue area – Update

The following email has been received from Southwark Council:

Please see below an update regarding events in the Dulwich Village Streets for People Scheme: Calton Avenue area.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our consultation, on the conditions that we proposed to apply to events taking place in the pedestrianised portion of the space.

Kind regards,

Miranda Clarke

  1. Ridiculous idea to have social activities in the middle of a shut down (for no apparent reason) road.
Another mad idea and failed idea from Southwark Council.

  2. We have several parks in the immediate area so surely we don’t need events in the middle of a built up area

  3. It is disingenuous for the council to describe the area concerned as the pedestrianised area (as opposed to the cycle /emergency access route) because ‘pedestrianised’ implies – the part made pavement, which once was not. The only way the new ‘pedestrianised zone’ is big enough to be awarded the dubious honour of hosting events is because it includes the former pavement, which soon became clogged by cafe seating and retail paraphenalia (how does one spell that?). An event with no discernible pavement and a teeny tiny gossip space – so close to an emergency route?
This is a vanity project for those who pull the strings.
